Learning

Sunday Adult Studies

It is never too late to learn from Christ as we seek to enrich our lives and our faith. Each Sunday, three adult groups meet prior to Sunday worship for study and discussion. Each group maintains a unique style and focus in their studies, but a variety of topics are covered. Study and discussion of texts from the Old and New Testaments of The Bible are frequent discussion areas. Issues in society, life-stage challenges, and local and regional missions are also covered. Groups gather at 8:45 am each Sunday and each group is open to all who are interested.

Bible Study

The Bible is the foundation of our United Methodist beliefs. Throughout the year there are opportunities for in depth study and discussion. In 2013, one group used Eugene Peterson’s The Daily Message-Through the Bible in One Year as a framework for reading the complete Bible during the year. At various times, small groups who seek a more complete understanding of their faith present other short Bible studies. Studies are open to all. If you wish to lead or participate in Bible study, contact unionumcstl@sbcglobal.net or call 314-647-1228.

The Revised Common Lectionary

Union UMC frequently follows the Revised Common Lectionary to guide Bible study and worship throughout the year. The Lectionary follows the Christian year and focuses on the central mystery of our faith, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The foundation is Sunday, the Lord's Day, on which we recall Christ's triumph over sin and death. Scriptures are from the New Revised Standard Version.
